Birth Year List

2012 Kids Folkstyle Regional Tournament (Saturday, March 10, 2012)

In the boys and girls divisions, wrestlers must qualify at one of the eight regional tournaments held on Saturday March 10, 2012 – in order to qualify for the kids’ folkstyle state tournament. The top 2 place finishers from each age and weight group from each regional qualify.

Wrestlers need to show a proof of birth year at Registration or be on the WWF Birth-year List which is compiled from info from past years Regionals. Also if a wrestler is born in 1997 they must show a report card for proof that they are still in 8th grade.

New for 2012

All registration and weigh-ins will be done Friday night March 9th from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm at the regional site.  Also new in 2012: because of Friday-night-only registration and weigh-in, each regional site has the option to hold a satellite weigh-in site that will run from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm.

Since all weigh-ins will be completed Friday night, wrestling will start at 8:30 am (Saturday) for the youngest 2 boys’ age groups along with all of the girls, and 11:30 am for the oldest 2 boys’ age groups.

USA Wrestling cards are required and will be available at the door at each site.  Advanced preparation is highly encouraged; plan ahead and send in for one by contacting Wisconsin Wrestling Federation membership secretary Sandy Russell (sandy.russell@wiwrestlingfederation.com) before March 1, 2012.  You can also acquire the card online via online the WWF membership page (http://www.wiwrestlingfederation.com/membership-info).

Whatever regional site location a wrestler registers and weighs in at, is the physical site they must actually wrestle at; there will be no forwarding of registration and weigh-in information between sites.

Annually, each of the 8 districts in the state – individually select a regional site for that district.  Any wrestler can wrestle in any regional site; they do not have to stay in their “home” district.

WIAA mat rules will apply in the folkstyle state tournament and at regionals, with one exception.  The time periods are one minute long at all age levels at the regionals. One minute periods for the youngest three age groups and one and a half minute periods for the oldest group at the state tournament only. There are only 15 minutes of rest required between matches.

All WIAA rules with the exception of time-limit per period will be enforced.  The mouth guard rule will be enforced with a penalty applied if a contestant has braces or any mouth apparatus and fails to have a mouth guard.  A one-point penalty will be applied along with injury time of one minute thirty seconds will start.  If a mouth guard is not secured in that period of time, the wrestler will be disqualified.  This rule has been enforced by the WIAA for two years.

Please note that these rules are specific to the WIAA handbook and will be enforced by the officials at the folkstyle regionals and folkstyle state tournament

Since there is a separate girls’ division, no girl can wrestle in the boys’ divisions; only in the girls’ division.

We again are going to call 3rd place finishers to fill in empty spots.  A system is set up so we rotate through the regionals to see which 3rd place finishers gets asked.  Please do not contact the WWF or the regional contact persons, we directly call you if a spot is available and your name comes up through the existing system.  If a 1st or 2nd place finisher cannot make the state tournament then the 3rd place finisher from that regional is the alternate and will be contacted.
