Agenda and Key Notes

Introduction and Overview, Scott Kluever

2022 WWF Freestyle & Greco State, Todd Schaaf

  • The WWF Freestyle & Greco State Championships are scheduled for May 6th-8th, in Wisconsin Dells

  • Pre-registration if completed by midnight of Tuesday, May 3rd is $35 for each style; $40 for each style at the Door at the Wisconsin Dells Center or any Remote Weigh-in site.

  • Coaches must have a current USA Wrestling Leaders membership and a Copper Coaches Certification or higher–this includes parents, club coaches, etc. Coaches are required to purchase a $10 Coaches Band to gain mat-side access for all sessions. Individuals 18 years of age and older must successfully complete a mandatory background check before purchasing USA Wrestling Leaders Membership. Please allow 7-10 business days for the background check process, as USA Wrestling Leaders Memberships will not be available on-site.

  • Red and blue singlets are required, and headgear is required for the kids level.

  • Complete information is available on the tournament page here

  • Please note: the WWF FS & GR State Championship is open to Wisconsin residents only, and serves as the final determining event for the Team Wisconsin boys 14U freestyle and Greco National Dual Team traveling to Indianapolis in June.

2022 Northern Plains Regional Championships, Scott Kluever

  • USA Wrestling’s Northern Plains Regional Championships will be held in Wisconsin Dells again this year, May 13th-15th.

  • Each of the USA Wrestling Regional Championship events, which includes Northern Plains, serves as an auto qualifier for Fargo for the top six place winners in each weight class and style.

  • Autoqualifiers do not count against the numbers each state is allotted to bring (60 for Junior boys, 68 for 16U boys). Autoqualifiers are also able to change weight classes from where they competed at a regional event.

  • For the women’s program, Northern Plains serves as an event that helps determine the Junior National Dual Team (combined 16U and Junior team).

Qualifying procedures for National Duals, Scott Kluever & Laura Bartoszek

  • The WFS 14U National Dual Team has been determined.

  • The WFS Junior National Dual Team (16U and Juniors are combined) is selected based on placements at events, in the following order: 1) Women’s Nationals, 2) Northern Plains and 3) the WWF Freestyle State tournament. Head Coach Bryan Koontz makes the final roster determinations–14 wrestlers and two alternates travel with the team.

  • WFS athletes interested in Junior National Duals, and the upcoming summer season, should complete this roster form

  • The MFS and GR 14U National Dual Team is determined by the highest placer at freestyle and Greco state. Wrestlers will compete in both styles. The final team is determined by Scott Kluever and Tony Shaaf. Interested athletes must complete this roster form after the state tournament. The deadline to submit is May 13th, and the team will be finalized by May 20th.

  • The MFS and GR 16U National Dual Team is determined by the highest placer at freestyle and Greco state. Wisconsin will bring two teams for freestyle and one for Greco. Interested athletes must complete this roster form after the state tournament. The deadline to submit is May 13th, and the team will be finalized by May 20th.

  • The MFS and GR Junior National Dual Team is determined by a point system based on placements at specific events. Interested athletes must complete this roster form after the state tournament. The deadline to submit is May 13th, and the team will be finalized by May 20th. After the form submission deadline, the unofficial roster will be posted online for accuracy in our process before it is finalized. Wrestlers will submit a form for each style.

Fargo qualifying criteria from FS & GR State and National Regionals, Scott Kluever

  • Team Wisconsin MFS and GR are able to bring 60 Juniors per style and 68 16U wrestlers per style to Fargo, in addition to any auto-qualifiers. Auto-qualifier opportunities:

    • Current year 1st-6th Place at USA Wrestling Regionals (placement must be in the same age and style)

    • Current year 1st-8th Place at U15 Nationals (placement must be in the same style)

    • Current year 1st-8th Place at UWW Cadet Nationals (placement must be in the same style)

    • Current year 1st-8th Place at UWW Junior Nationals (placement must be in the same style)

    • Previous year 1st-8th Place at Junior Nationals (placement must be in the same style)

    • Previous year 1st-8th Place at 16U Nationals (placement must be in the same style)

    • Current year 1st-3rd Place at WWF State Freestyle and Greco Tournament (placement must be in the same style and weight class). This is an auto-qualifier, but it does count against our total number.

  • Team Wisconsin WFS entries are unlimited. Interested athletes must complete this roster form, and complete information can be found online here

Uniform Store #2 is open April 22 - May 9th, Scott Kluever

  • The gear store will reopen from April 22nd - May 9th. Orders will take approximately 6-8 weeks to arrive after the store closes.

  • There are NEW SINGLETS for the 2022 season. ALL athletes wrestling in Fargo are required to purchase a new set of singlets this season. We’ve been notified that the size chart runs small, and we recommend purchasing a size up. Note: Wrestlers on the National Team that do not wish to purchase a new set of singlets may use a generic reversible singlet offered by the WWF coaching staff.

Questions & Closing Remarks, Scott Kluever

  • Boys interested in wrestling at Central Plains should email Scott Kluever by April 30th.

  • Typically the lower and upper weight classes are more difficult to fill for MFS and GR teams. For WFS, weight classes above 144 are harder to fill.

  • Please verify your email in the USA Wrestling membership system. This is how we communicate updates and information regarding team selection.
