Fort Worth, Texas — Alisha Howk (55kg) and Macey Kilty (62kg) won U23 titles at Womens Nationals over the weekend. While this would have been an automatic berth onto the U23 World Team in prior years, edits specific to the U23 team selection process allow for age-eligible Senior National Team members to elect a position at their weight, so the team won’t be finalized until after Senior WTT next weekend in Coralville. Kilty, a five-time age-group World medalist and finalist at the 2020 Olympic Team Trials, earned a silver medal at U23 Worlds in 2019. Howk, who has wrestled at Cadet and Junior Worlds, is seeking her first U23 World Team appearance. Both wrestlers are qualified for Senior WTT.
Earning All-American honors at U17 (Cadet) World Team Trials were Faith Bartoszek and Hanna Errthum. Both wrestlers reached the semifinals before taking a loss. Bartoszek, part of the Wyoming Seminary Prep program, wrestled back for a 3rd place finish and position on the U17 National Team. Errthum injury defaulted to 6th after the 4-4 criteria decision in the semis.
In addition to U23 Nationals and Junior and Cadet World Team Trials, the three-day event featured U15 and kids 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U age groups. In the U15 age group, Brynn Engel and Dilynn Albrecht earned a spot to compete at the Pan Am Team qualifying tournament that will be held sometime in August. Here’s a Wisconsin placement recap:
