Competition at the US Open in Las Vegas starts Wednesday, April 26th, with the Senior Greco-Roman division. Over the next few days, more than 100 athletes from Wisconsin will compete in men’s and women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman.

In senior men's freestyle, Junior World Champion Keegan O'Toole will compete at 74kg, and Alex Dieringer, a junior World silver medalist, will compete at 79kg. Mitchell Mesenbrink, 2022 junior World silver medalist, is registered at 70kg in the U20 division.

Alyssa Lampe (two-time senior World bronze medalist), Alisha Howk (U23 World bronze medalist), Kylie Welker (junior World champion), and Macey Kilty (cadet World champion and multiple-time age group medalist) will compete in senior women’s freestyle.

Past World team members in the senior Greco division include Olympians Ben Provisor and Jesse Thielke, Alston Nutter (junior World bronze medalist), Benji Peak, Tyler Hannah, and Payton Jacobson.

In addition to World medalists and team members, Wisconsin talent runs deep with a strong mix of state champions, past placers in Vegas, and Fargo champions and All-Americans.

The events play a critical role in the team selection process for the U.S. World and Pan American teams.

SENIORS: There’s major weight on Senior Nationals this weekend as the winner in each weight class moves directly to Final X. In weights where a 2022 World medalist accepted their bid to Final X, the matchup in New Jersey on June 10th will be set. In weights without a World medalist, or where the World medalist declined, the winner of the US Open will face the champion of the World Team Trials Challenge tournament coming up in May. The top 7 place-winners at the US Open qualify to compete at the World Team Trials Challenge tournament where applicable.

U20: U20 Nationals serves as a qualifier for the UWW U20 World Team Trials events in Geneva, Ohio, June 4th-6th. The champion in Vegas earns an automatic spot in the best-of-three finals series. U20 Nationals will also determine the 2023 Pan Am team, using 1st-8th place criteria. Age-eligible U20 1st-8th Place (placement must be in the same style) auto-qualify for Team WI at Fargo.

U17: The U17 division is the World Team Trials event and will determine the lineup for Team USA at the U17 World Championships in Istanbul from July 31st-August 6th. For the Pan Am team, U17 athletes will earn points for competing in both styles. The U17 Pan Ams are scheduled for June 22nd-25th in Mexico City. Wrestlers who place in the top 8 (placement must be in the same style) auto-qualify for Team WI at Fargo.

U15: U15 nationals serves as a qualifying tournament into the U15 Pan Am trials at a date TBD in August. Participating athletes must meet one of the following criteria to qualify for the final Pan American trials selection event: top 8 from 2023 U15 Nationals (Las Vegas), top 8 from 2023 16U or Junior Nationals (Fargo), top 3 from 2022 & 2023 Kids Nationals. The U15 Final Pan Am Team Trials champion in both Freestyle & Greco-Roman will represent Team USA in Panama City, October 13th-15th. Wrestlers who place in the top 8 (placement must be in the same style) auto-qualify for Team WI at Fargo.

Futures Nationals and Masters Nationals are just that, high-caliber national events for those specific age groups. Finally, the Girls National High School Recruiting Showcase will feature state champions and place winners from qualifying tournaments.
