WI x USA Wrestling Highlights
Congratulations to Connor Mirasola on making the U20 World team! Mirasola—who sat out until the best of three finals series after winning the US Open—dominated two-straight matches over Ryder Rogotzke in the finals series. The U20 World Championships are currently scheduled for September 2-8, 2024, in Pontevedra, Spain.
Three more battled in the U20 best-of-three finals and placed second overall in the World Team Trials process: Aeoden Sinclair (86kg) in freestyle, Brett Back (72kg) and Amryn Nutter (63kg) in Greco. Like Mirasola, Sinclair and Back sat into the finals with their US Open wins. Nutter won the challenge tournament and finished 2nd overall.
Placing in the U20 challenge tournament were Charlie Millard (2nd), Cole Mirasola (3rd), Gunnar Hamre (3rd), Max Ramberg (3rd), Noah Mulvaney (4th), Koy Hopke (4th), Rhett Koenig (4th), and TJ Schierl (4th).
In the U23 division, John Gunderson claimed the 86kg title over Lucas Cochran. Gunderson will have first choice to compete at the Pan Am Games later this month, and the chance to compete at the U23 World Championships in Tirana, Albania, if no age-eligible Senior National Team member claims the spot.
Placing at U23 Nationals in freestyle were Clayton Whiting (3rd), Shane Corrigan (8th), Matty Bianchi (6th) and Joey Bianchi (7th). In Greco were Tyler Hannah (3rd), Aaron Dobbs (4th), Caden Young (5th), Tyler Klein (7th) and Joey Bianchi (7th).
THANK YOU!
Last month the WWF wrapped up the 2024 state series in Madison. We want to once again call out and thank the WWF board of directors, team, and volunteers for their outstanding efforts in moving the freestyle & Greco state championships event to Madison in such a short timeframe with the venue change. Our state series would not be possible without the extraordinary efforts of everyone involved.
Here's to another great month of wrestling!
