Welcome in the new month with a lot to look forward to! October promises excitement with our Annual Meeting just around the corner, Wisconsin athletes gearing up for the World Championships, sanctioned events rolling in, and our WFS camp series underway. Check out the highlights and key dates below.
Annual Meeting this Sunday
You're invited to the WWF Annual Meeting on October 6th! Join us at the Lodge at Mauston as we hear from WWF State Chairperson Todd Schaaf and other directors as they share their year-in-review. Get key dates for the upcoming season, learn about the new USAW event management system from special guest Dave Matthews, and participate in the 2024 election process. Up for vote this year at the Annual Meeting are the positions of Kids Director, 16U Director, Junior Director, and Women’s Director.
Check-in begins at 11:00AM, lunch will be served at 11:30AM and the meeting will begin at 12:00PM. Get more information on the team and review bylaw 2.4 for voting procedures at the Annual Meeting here.
Voting will adhere to WWF bylaw 2.4. Please note that the voting privilege for a chartered club shall be provided to the club director listed in USA Wrestling's membership system or his/her designee. The club director and/or designee must be a current USA Wrestling Leader. Clubs with a designee must provide the designee’s name to the Vice-Chairperson at least 48 hours before the annual meeting begins. Members eligible to vote are limited to representing a single chartered club.
Women’s Freestyle Camp Series
More than 30 wrestlers attended the first camp in our WFS series at Nazar Trained in Madison! Athletes focused on gut wrench offense and defense. Thank you Nazar for hosting, our stellar coaching staff, and Neysa for leading the breakout discussion on journaling and long range planning!
The series continues October 19th at Victory School of Wrestling in River Falls for Wisconsin 14U, 16U and Junior female athletes. The technique focus will be handfighting, and head + hands defense with the breakout discussion on life after wrestling with Alisha Howk and Josie Bartishofski.
Sanctioned Events in WI (current Oct. & Nov.)
The first sanctioned events for the 2024-25 season are rolling in! Hosting an event? Sanction it directly in the membership system (select here to learn more), or submit a completed application to sanctioned an event form the Sandy Russell. After that, send us your flyer and we’ll post it online!
National Events
Wisconsin x USA Wrestling Highlights
Watch Wisconsin wrestlers battle at the U23 and Senior World Championships this month in Tirana, Albania! First up, four will compete at the U23 World Championships beginning October 21st—Mitchell Mesenbrink and John Gunderson in freestyle, Macey Kilty and Kylie Welker in women’s freestyle and Olympian Payton Jacobson in Greco-Roman. The Senior World Championships starting October 28th with Greco will see Benji Peak and Brady Koontz, and then Macey Kilty and Kylie Welker will compete in women’s freestyle. All four won the team trials in September and are making their second career appearances at Senior Worlds!
Congratulations to Connor Mirasola on a fifth place finish at the U20 World Championships! Mirasola put together an impressive 3-2 performance on the world stage in September, helping Team USA earn the men’s freestyle team title in Pontevedra, Spain. Finally, congratulations to Taylor Whiting who proved she’s number one! Whiting secured the win over Heather Crull (4-2) in a midwestern brawl at the FloWrestling Who’s Number One event in Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon.
