WI x USA Wrestling Highlights
Tracking Wisconsin’s performance at national events in the spring and summer, and through the Pan Am and World Team selection process, continues to be an impressive ride.
The US Open Events in April served as both Nationals and World Team Trials for a wide range of age groups under the umbrella of events contested in Las Vegas. Wisconsin saw an impressive 27 wrestlers stand on the podium as All-Americans. This includes eight champions and nine more top-three finishes.
Among the many highlights:
- Olympian Payton Jacobson (87 kg) and Alston Nutter (67 kg) secured their spots on the 2025 Senior Greco-Roman World Team.
- Mitchell Mesenbrink (74 kg) and Kylie Welker (76 kg) punched their tickets to Final X on June 14, the final step toward earning a place on the Senior Freestyle World Team.
- Connor (92 kg) and Cole (125 kg) Mirasola won U20 titles and will represent Team USA at the U20 Pan Ams. They’ll also sit out until the best-of-three finals at the U20 World Team Trials in Ohio later this month.
- John Reimer earned a title in Futures Freestyle and placed 2nd in Greco.
- Brooke Huffman dominated the Girls High School Showcase to take gold.
- Aeoden Sinclair made a big statement with second-place finishes in both the U20 and Senior divisions.
Many of the top-3 finishers earned a place on USA Wrestling’s National Team, and the top-8 placers in U15, U17, and U20 automatically qualified for Fargo Nationals this July.
May brings with it the final stretch of the World Team Trials events. The Senior Men’s and Women’s Freestyle WTT will determine the remainder of the Final X matchups on June 14, while the freestyle and Greco World teams will be determined in Ohio for the U20 and U23 divisions.
