The Woodside Dome was buzzing with energy this weekend as the WWF Freestyle and Greco State Championships returned to Wisconsin Dells in full force. Some of the toughest wrestlers in the state battled for individual titles and the chance to represent Team Wisconsin on the national stage.

Saturday featured nonstop action with an impressive 1,138 athletes competing across all freestyle divisions and age groups, followed by 440 Greco-Roman wrestlers who took the mat on Sunday.

Twenty-five athletes earned titles in both freestyle and Greco:

  • Juniors: Co`ji Campbell, Colton Weiler, Sullivan Ramos, Hunter Vander Heiden
  • 16U: Connor Woosencraft, Eldon Roth, Aj Woerpel, Lincoln Swick, Martez Sheard, Tyler Paulson, Carson Neubert, Alexander Penzkover, Reed Falk
  • 14U: Reed Akkerman, Vincent Rubens, Gavin Lamers, Kolten Mueller, Keilan Yang, Hawke Garrett, Reece Vendegna, Wyatt Wolf, Jacob Penzkover, Blake Konichek, Elias Green, Chase Munger

Finals were intense, with more than a few matchups worth a rewind for their all-out brawls. Placing at the state tournament is a major achievement. For some, the wins are lacing up, scoring points, or improving in a position they've been working on. For those with sights set on the National Team, however, a title or top-3 finish was especially important.

The 14U and 16U freestyle and Greco National Duals teams will be selected based on placement at this weekend’s event. For women’s freestyle, placement is the second criterion behind women’s nationals, and placement impacts the PIN ratings for all juniors in the dual team selection process.

In the 16U and Junior divisions, a top-three finish locked in a spot on Team Wisconsin for the 2025 USA Wrestling Junior and 16U Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. Wrestlers that did not place in the top 3 still have the opportunity to auto-qualify for Fargo by placing in the top 6 at one of USA Wrestling Regional Championships—like Northern Plains in Rochester next weekend, or Central Plains May 17-18 in Louisville KY.
