Beginners Freestyle & Greco State

The WWF has added a true beginners freestyle and Greco state tournament to the 2023 calendar! On April 29th wrestlers will be able to test out the Olympic styles of wrestling against competition with similar experience.

Registration is open only to those athletes that have not competed in the WWF freestyle and Greco state championships in the past. Age groups are 10U-Juniors in girls and boys freestyle, and Greco-Roman. Check out the flyer for weight class details.

The event will run alongside an open freestyle and Greco tournament and lands the weekend before the Wisconsin state tournament so that athletes can join us in the Dells if they enjoyed competing in Freestyle/Greco.

All freestyle wrestlers weigh-in Friday night at Fon du Lac, or at the satellite weigh-in sites (X-Factor Elite, Mukwonago, DC Everest, Mineral Point, AT-Elite Performance Center). Greco-only wrestlers may weigh in Saturday morning.

Coaches must have a current USA Wrestling Leaders membership and a minimum copper coaches certification. This includes parents, club coaches, etc.

Individuals 18 years of age and older must successfully complete a mandatory background check before purchasing USA Wrestling Leaders Membership. Please allow 7-10 business days for the background check process, as USA Wrestling Leaders Memberships will not be available on-site.

All USA Wrestling Leaders Members will receive free admission to the WWF State Freestyle and Greco Tournaments

The Olympic styles of wrestling present major opportunities for our athletes to take part in the USA Wrestling season, to represent Team Wisconsin on the national stage, and to vie for World and Olympic teams. This is only the beginning!

This year the WWF is partnering with hosts of freestyle and Greco tournaments to run FS & GR technique sessions at local events to highlight the Olympic styles, and to share more about the opportunities for our athletes within the WWF FS & GR programs. These clinics are open to all attendees of the events.
