Beginners Freestyle & Greco State

The 2024 True Beginners Freestyle and Greco State Championships will be on April 27th! The WWF added a true beginners freestyle and Greco state tournament in 2023 and we are happy to continue growing the event! Wrestlers will be able to test out the Olympic styles of wrestling against competition with similar experience.

This event is for true beginners, and only open to wrestlers who have not competed in the WWF freestyle or Greco state championships in the past. The event lands the weekend before the Wisconsin state tournament so that athletes can join us in the Dells if they enjoyed competing in Freestyle/Greco.

Registration is open only to those athletes who have not competed in the WWF freestyle and Greco state championships in the past. Wrestlers may compete at the beginner's state championships for a maximum of two years. Age groups are 10U-Juniors in girls and boys freestyle, and Greco-Roman. Check out the flyer for weight class details.

All coaches must have a current USA Wrestling Leaders membership and a minimum copper coaches certification. This includes parents, club coaches, etc.

All freestyle wrestlers weigh in Friday night at Mukwonago High School, or at the satellite weigh-in sites (X-Factor Elite, DC Everest, Mineral Point, AT-Elite Performance Center, AWA North Shore or Team Nazar-Madison). Greco-only wrestlers may weigh in on Saturday morning (if they don't weigh in Friday night).

Individuals 18 years of age and older must successfully complete a mandatory background check before purchasing USA Wrestling Leaders Membership. Please allow 7-10 business days for the background check process, as USA Wrestling Leaders Memberships will not be available on-site.

All USA Wrestling Leaders Members will receive free admission to the WWF State Freestyle and Greco Tournaments.

WWF Clinics Leading up to Freestyle and Greco State
The WWF is partnering with the hosts of three local events to run freestyle and Greco technique sessions again this season to highlight the Olympic styles, and to share more about the opportunities for our athletes within the WWF FS & GR programs! These clinics are open to all attendees of the events and are a great opportunity for younger athletes to get exposed to the W WF head coaches.
