The spring season offers a wide variety of high-caliber national competitions for our wrestlers, including Dominate in the Dells (Folkstyle), Folkstyle Nationals, the U.S. Open (freestyle and Greco), Northern Plains Regional Championships, and the WWF’s Wisconsin Freestyle and Greco State Championships. Please visit USA Wrestling for their complete event schedule.
Team Wisconsin will travel together and compete nationally at 14U, 16U and Junior National Duals, and at the 16U and Junior National Championships (Fargo).
Let's have a great season!
The Junior & 16U National Championships will be July 15-22 in Fargo, ND.
The WWF is able to bring four (4) athletes per weight class for the MFS and GR programs. To qualify for the Wisconsin National Team, wrestlers must auto-qualify nationally (opportunities listed below), place top-three at the 2023 WWF Freestyle/Greco State Championships (same weight and style), or win a wrestle-off at the pre-Fargo camps in River Falls. A minimum of one wrestle-off spot is reserved at each weight class per age group and style. Since national auto-qualifiers do not count against the allotted number the state can bring, any auto-qualified wrestler that places in the top-three at WWF freestyle/Greco state opens up an additional wrestle-off spot at camp.
Auto-qualifier opportunities:
Cost: The cost is $375, plus $135 per style wrestled at Fargo. Athlete fees will cover hotel, transportation, and registration. Registration will open in late May.
Camp & Competition Dates:
July 14-15: JR FS camp in River Falls
July 16: JR FS travel to Fargo and weigh in
July 17-19: JR FS competes
July 18-19: JR GR camp in River Falls
July 20: JR GR travel and weigh in
July 21-22: JR GR competes
Uniforms: Athletes are responsible for purchasing the Team Wisconsin uniform package (minimum red and blue singlet). Wrestlers on the National Team that do not wish to purchase a new set of singlets may use a generic reversible singlet offered by the WWF coaching staff. Athletes who purchased a uniform package in 2022 DO NOT need to purchase another gear package. The singlets are the same for 2023

National Duals are age-level USA Wrestling events featuring some of the best competition on teams from across the country. The Junior National Dual team will travel and compete in Tulsa, Oklahoma, June 12th-16th for Greco, and June 14th-18th for freestyle. The cost is $475 per athlete.
NEW Qualifying Procedures for 2023
The Junior Boys National Duals Team will be selected using USA Wrestling’s Performance Index rating. The USA Wrestling Performance Index (PI) measures consistency over time and rates the probability of a person winning against an opponent based on their body of work. A person with a higher PI is considered more likely to beat someone with a lower PI and the closer the PIs are the closer the probability gets to 50/50 chances. This does not reward the one-time win or head-to-head over an opponent; what it does is reward consistency over time. If you consistently beat people with higher PIs, you will gain PI points to surpass them in the index given that you do not lose to lesser competition along the way.
The PI system uses historical data from all USA Wrestling sanctioned freestyle and Greco events. The WWF will use PI information through 2023 Northern Plains Regional Championships to determine the Junior National Dual team. Opportunities for wrestlers to improve their PI ranking in 2023 include the US Open, the WWF Freestyle & Greco State Championships, Northern Plains and any other local freestyle and Greco tournament sanctioned by USA Wrestling. Individual PI rankings will be made public after the team selection.
