TLDR: Wisconsin 16U Greco places 4th overall at National Duals with a 5-3 record. The team defeated SC, ND, WA, MN, TN and took losses to IA, IL and PA. 14U Greco advanced to the Gold/Silver Pool at the conclusion of day 1. 

Team Wisconsin is competing at USA Wrestling’s 16U National Duals this week in Loves Park, IL and 14U National Duals in Oaks, PA. Both age groups started with the Greco divisions.

All teams start in an initial bracket, with the top two teams from each bracket advancing to the Gold/Silver All-American Bracket.

The 16U Greco team put together an outstanding performance and finished 4th place overall. They opened the tournament in Pool A with major wins over South Carolina (W72-8) and Nebraska (W62-14) and then fought their way to victory over Washington, W39-35 to earn a spot in the Pool A finals.

The team took their first loss of the competition to No. 1 seed and eventual champions Iowa, L48-24, in the Pool A finals. Because Washington took 3rd there was no true 2nd match. Wisconsin finished out day 1 with a challenging match against Illinois, L49-25. On Thursday, the team pulled together a tightly contested battle-border victory over Minnesota (W38-37) before knocking off Tennesee W46-28. They dropped their final match versus Pennsylvania, L42-32, in the medal match and closed out the tournament with a 5-3 record overall.

The 14U team kicked off Greco action in Pennsylvania this morning and advanced to the Gold/Silver pool. They collected wins over Louisiana, W72-13, and Florida 49-33 to advance to Pool B finals where they lost to Pennsylvania Blue, L50-28. They defeated Oklahoma Blue (W42-33) in the Gold/Silver Pool to close out day one with a 3-1 record. We take on Ohio first thing in the morning.

Action continues with 14U Greco in Pennsylvania tomorrow, and 16U Freestyle in Illinois. Wisconsin has two 16U freestyle teams competing.
