Youth wrestling season is ramping up! Kids will have lots of opportunities to compete at sanctioned events in Wisconsin this month. Parents should note that Kids Folkstyle Nationals for boys and girls, formerly held alongside high school Folkstyle Nationals in the spring, will be at the end of January.   USA Wrestling’s Kids Folkstyle Nationals (boys and girls 8U-14U) will be on January 26-28. This is the first time Kids Nationals will be a standalone event, and the first time the event will combine competition dates for the boys and girls divisions. Read more about the event, here. Kids Freestyle and Greco Nationals will be in June, at a date TBD.

WFS Camp Series
Let’s keep that momentum going with our women’s freestyle camp series! Our next camp is at Holmen High School on December 10th, primarily focusing on par terre. Head Coach Bryan Koontz and Coach Barry Davis are the lead coaches for both wrestling sessions. Coach Carl DeLuca will lead a discussion on information and best practices for using the WWF website. These camps are open to all Wisconsin 14U, 16U, and Junior women with a USA Wrestling athlete membership. Select here for more information about the WFS program, and here to register today!

**Date Change** The two-day WFS Wisconsin x Iowa joint team camp will now be March 2nd and 3rd at Holmen High School! This is great news for our Wisconsin wrestlers who now have the opportunity to get high-level training with another state without crossing borders. A schedule for this camp will be shared when confirmed. 

Wisconsin U.S. Olympic Team Trials Qualifiers
Wisconsin has a dedicated group of senior-level athletes looking to secure entry into the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in April as a step toward an Olympic run in Paris.

Alisha Howk and Payton Jacobson earned a place in the challenge tournament with their placements at the Bill Farrell Memorial International in November. Jacobson won the event outright at 77kg in Greco-Roman; he went 4-0, defeating Minto Maeda of Japan in the finals. Howk, at 53kg in women’s freestyle, placed runner-up to Canada’s Karla Godinez.

The next major event for senior-level athletes is Senior Nationals which will be December 15th-17th in Fort Worth, Texas. Wrestlers that place in the top five will advance to the 2024 Olympic Team Trials.

Mitchell Mesenbrink, Keegan O’Toole, Macey Kilty, Kylie Welker, Brady Koontz, Jesse Thielke, Benji Peak and Ben Provisor are already qualified as past world teamers/medalists. Check out USA Wrestling’s complete list of qualifiers as of November 20th by selecting here.
