Freestyle and Greco season is in full swing! April features local Wisconsin events as well as major national events, including Womens Nationals, the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, and the US Open, which mark the beginning of Team Wisconsin and USA Wrestling’s team selection process! Those events, and highlights for the month, are outlined below.

Sanctioned Events in WI

WWF Clinics Leading up to Freestyle and Greco State
The WWF is partnering with the hosts of three local events to run freestyle and Greco technique sessions again this season to highlight the Olympic styles, and to share more about the opportunities for our athletes within the WWF FS & GR programs! These clinics are open to all attendees of the events and are a great opportunity for younger athletes to get exposed to the WWF head coaches.

WFS Camp
The final camp in our women’s freestyle camp series is
April 21st at Aviators Wrestling Club. This camp follows Aviators annual international freestyle and Greco tournament and is a great opportunity to train with international athletes. The WWF camp series, which runs from Sept. to Apr. at various locations across the state, is open to all Wisconsin 14U, 16U, and Junior women with a USA Wrestling athlete membership, and are led by coaches on the WWF national team staff. Register here.

National Events

Beginners Freestyle and Greco State
The WWF True Beginners Freestyle and Greco State will be April 27th in Mukwonago! Wrestlers will be able to test out the Olympic styles of wrestling against competition with similar experience. Registration is open only to those athletes who have not competed in the WWF freestyle and Greco state championships in the past. Wrestlers may compete at the beginner's state championships for a maximum of two years. Check out the tournament website
here.

2024 WWF Freestyle Greco State Championships
Pre-registration is open now through May 2nd for the 2024 WWF Freestyle and Greco State Championships. Select
here to register; visit the tournament website here.

  • Placement impacts team selection! FS/GR state is an auto-qualifier event for Fargo (top 3), determines the boys 14U and 16U National Duals teams, impacts the girls 14U and 16U dual team criteria, and is the final opportunity to increase PIN ratings for the junior dual team selections!
  • Coaching Credentials at Freestyle/Greco State: All coaches are required to have a coaches pass, a current USA Wrestling Leaders membership and a Copper Coaches Certification or higher to be matside—this includes parents, club coaches, etc. Please allow 7-10 business days for the background check process, as USA Wrestling Leaders Memberships will not be available on-site.
  • NOW AVAILABLE: Coaches Passes (required) are available for purchase (select here) in the USAW Membership System through May 2nd for $20. Coaches must have a profile photo uploaded and approved by USA Wrestling to their USAW profile for the printed pass. If a coach misses the Thursday deadline, they may continue to purchase a coaches pass until Friday midnight for $50. If purchasing onsite, coaches may be delayed getting matside until the pass has been processed and approved by USA Wrestling. Passes are good for all sessions.
  • Table Workers: The WWF is looking for matside table workers for the WWF Freestyle & Greco-Roman State Championships on May 4th and 5th in Wisconsin Dells! The pay is $150 for Saturday and $100 for Sunday. Interested parties should contact Jeff Jones at jeffjones@att.net.
  • NEW: Admission tickets can be purchased online in the membership system here.

Informational Calls
We’ve successfully hosted informational calls covering the women’s freestyle and men’s freestyle and Greco season overviews, including key events, camps and team selection criteria for National Duals and Fargo. Blogs with notes and the video replay are posted below.

Thank you!
Wisconsin USA Wrestling members are more than 14K strong! In March we surpassed our all-time membership record for the second consecutive season and that’s thanks to our amazing community of athletes, coaches and parents believing in and building toward the same dream!

We also want to thank everyone who contributed to such successful weekends for the kids qualifiers and state championships for our youth wrestlers. In addition to serving more than 7,000 kids over the course of the two weekends, we were able to successfully expand the state tournament with the additional day of wrestling for the girls divisions and witnessed the breathtaking growth of girls wrestling here in Wisconsin. The 2025 dates for the Kids State qualifiers will be 22nd and the State Championships will be March 28th-30th.

We look forward to providing a top-tier experience for each and every one of you throughout the spring and summer season!
