The WWF hosts a Wisconsin State Tournament Series each year, providing opportunties for athletes of all ability levels! Below is a short description of each event and key considerations for athletes and coaches.

WWF Kids Folkstyle Team State: March 3rd in Verona.
The WWF Kids Team State Championships will be Sunday, March 3rd in Verona and we’re gearing up for a record number of teams competing this season! Teams competing consist of wrestlers from the same school district who practice regularly with the team. Teams made up of athletes in 3rd-5th grade will compete at Badger Ridge Middle School, and teams made up of athletes in 6th-8th grade will compete at Verona High School.

All wrestlers must have a USA Wrestling athlete membership card and coaches must have a USA Wrestling Leader card. Complete details for  Kids Team State are posted online here.

Kids Folkstyle State Qualifiers: March 16th at various locations.
The WWF Kids Folkstyle State Qualifiers are hosted at 8 locations across Wisconsin on March 16th and the top 3 athletes in each age group/division and weight class qualify to compete at the Kids Folkstyle State Championships the following weekend! Wrestlers may compete at any of the qualifier locations.

  • Pre-registration for any of the Qualifier Sites is available on Trackwrestling through March 12th for $22 (registration links are posted online on our website for all qualifiers here). Wrestlers can register at the door of any of the sites during the weigh-in times for $40. TrackWrestling requires that a weight class be selected during pre-registration—athletes will NOT be held to that weight. Their weight class will be determined during weigh-ins.
  • All qualifiers have Friday night weigh-ins onsite and at satellite locations.
  • ALL coaches must have a current USA Wrestling card, which requires advanced passing of a national-level background check and SafeSport training. Coaches are encouraged to get this done ASAP as it takes 7-10 business days for USA Wrestling to complete the background check process.
  • Complete details for the Kids State Qualifiers, including contact information and satellite weigh-in sites for each district are posted online here.

Qualifier Locations and Registration Links

WWF Kids Folkstyle State Championships: March 22nd-24th in Madison.

The largest event is the WWF Kids Folkstyle State Championships, which is hosted at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison! We look forward to hosting this event every single year as it provides the opportunity for more than 2,000 youth wrestlers to take the mats and experience a championship environment here in Wisconsin. Kids qualify for the tournament by placing in the top 3 in their weight class and age division at one of eight locations for the Kids State Qualifiers listed above.

  • Registration costs $50 if done online by midnight Tuesday, March 19th, or $75 at the door.
  • Qualifier names with their clubs will be posted online on March 16th—parents/coaches need to verify the spelling of athletes' names and club associations and submit changes by midnight Sunday, March 17th.
  • Biggest changes from 2023: Girls-only day of competition on Sunday! We believe that as we build it, they will come, and the number of girls wrestling grows every year here in Wisconsin. Additionally, all weigh-ins on Friday and Saturday afternoons will be completed in an adjunct facility to create efficiency and space for our competitors.
  • Printed Passes: Please ensure a profile photo is uploaded in the USAW membership system for wrestlers by midnight Tuesday, March 19th so they have their picture on their competitor floor pass. Select here for a tutorial on how to upload your profile photo. Coaches are required to have a photo uploaded to get on the floor.
  • Coaching Credentials at State: All coaches are required to have a coaches pass, a current current USA Wrestling Leaders membership and a Copper Coaches Certification or higher to be matside at the Kids State Championships—this includes parents, club coaches, etc. Please allow 7-10 business days for the background check process, as USA Wrestling Leaders Memberships will not be available on-site.
  • Coaches Passes (required) for state will be available for purchase in the USAW Membership System Mar. 1st-Mar. 19th for $20. Coaches must have a profile photo uploaded and approved by USA Wrestling to their USAW profile for the printed pass. If a coach misses the Tuesday deadline, they may continue to purchase a coaches pass until Thursday midnight for $50. If purchasing onsite, coaches may be delayed getting matside until the pass has been processed and approved by USA Wrestling. Passes are good for all sessions.
  • We hosted an informational zoom call all about the Kids State Qualifiers and State Championships on February 21st at 7PM. Select here for the video replay and notes.

Complete details for the Kids State Championships is posted online here.

Beginners Freestyle and Greco State Championships: April 27th in Mukwonago.
The WWF added a true beginners freestyle and Greco state tournament in 2023 and we are happy to continue growing the event! On April 27th wrestlers will be able to test out the Olympic styles of wrestling against competition with similar experience. This event is for true beginners, and only open to wrestlers who have not competed in the WWF freestyle or Greco state championships in the past. The event lands the weekend before the Wisconsin state tournament so that athletes can join us in the Dells if they enjoyed competing in Freestyle/Greco.

All coaches must have a current USA Wrestling Leaders membership and a minimum copper coaches certification. This includes parents, club coaches, etc. Complete details for this event are posted online here.

Freestyle and Greco State Championships: May 4th-5th in Wisconsin Dells.
The WWF Freestyle and Greco State Championships is the final event of the WWF state series! Freestyle and Greco state is an opportunity for athletes to prove themselves among the best in the Olympic styles here in the state, and serves as part of the team selection process for Team Wisconsin’s National Duals and Fargo teams. After this tournament, Wisconsin comes together to make its strongest united team to represent Team Wisconsin at the national level.

  • National Duals: The 14U and 16U girls freestyle, and the 16U boys freestyle and Greco teams are determined by the highest placers at state. The 14U boys combined Greco and freestyle team is also determined by the highest placer at state. This is an opportunity to increase a wrestlers PIN rating, which determines the Junior girls and boys teams.
  • Junior and 16U National Championships (Fargo): The top three placers in the 16U and Junior divisions automatically qualify!
  • Matside Coaching Requirements: Coaches Pass, USA Wrestling Leaders Membership, and a Copper Coaches Certification or higher. All coaches are required to have a photo uploaded in their profile for the printed coaches pass.

Complete details for the Freestyle and Greco State Championships are posted online here.
